Where was Four Track, Now? on Monday?

That's the one! I too struggled to find my way through the local platforms to the intercity.

Toronto Union is going through a major rebuild at the moment.  Got completely lost there two weeks ago when trying to find my way out to the Waterfront.  The refurbished concorse is a splendid affair though.  Very 1920/30s.

The train looks splendid. But the station building reminds me of an edge-of-town Tesco...

The train is rather splendid, obviously built to a Canadian standard of ruggedness. There is no platform for the intercity trains - someone appears with steps at the station. Which does look a bit rudimentary at Kingston, although the same cannot be said of Toronto Union Station. Sadly, I did not take pictures. Bristolians will be interested to know that an arena was constructed right next door to it.

After two nights in Niagara, we caught the train to Toronto, then a couple of days later we moved on to Kingston, Ontario on this:

We could have said hello.  I was in Toronto a week ago...

#MeToo

On our way home, we stop over for a few days in a country with no railway at all.

Iceland?

Spot on!

I too have visited Iceland and whilst I was there I noted a lot of work being undertaken between Keflavik and Reykjavik which I was informed was to be a super tram track linking the two airports, the proposed Reykjavik terminal being just below The Pearl and between that and the main airport runway.

I first visited Iceland in May 2016, and saw no sign of work then, although I had read about the proposal. There being a lot of empty ground between Keflavik and Reykjavik, not so many bats or newts, and a total population of the entire country below that of Bristol, it should be easier to get on with than it would be in Britain. They do seem to get on with things over there. The energy source will be electricity produced without pollution from the hot springs, I suppose.

Looking at what looks like the phone kiosk I can see it's not in Germany as it's not yellow. It does look northern European, possibly one of the low countries.

Aren't the phone booths in Germany pink/purple? Same colour as T-Mobile. I recall they are branded as T- something or other.

Maybe they are these days but I've not been in Germany for 8 years. I'm sure they had the same colour as the Bundespost letter boxes when I used to visit Hamburg yearly since childhood in the 1960s. They might be different now though.

I don't remember those yellow boxes but it looks like the pink boxes that replaced them are themselves being phased out due to falling use.

Not low. The answer is Niagara, where I arrived by Amtrak after a 9-hour ride from New York Penn Station.

The time passed quickly, with much to see out of the window. We rode business class, which was very comfortable and included endless coffee. The carriage seemed a little dated compared to the HSTs - even more so against IET - and the road was a little rockier in parts than the GWR, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. The WiFi worked perfectly, too. Everybody had to get off the train with all of their luggage for a border check. We didn't mind as we had reached our destination.
I had been told that the American side of the falls is tackier than the Canadian side. The resort there was a bit like Blackpool, but without the sophistication. The Falls themselves are absolutely splendid.

My journey was not so long although the train was late. Only boarded at Niagara (U.S. side) to Niagara (Canadian Side) where I had to detrain to buy my ticket to Toronto for a few days thence Toronto - Ottawa (few days stay) - Montreal (few days stay and meet up with my brother). That was extent of my Canadian itinerary of my first of four round the world backpacks.

Ironically, Niagara Falls Station was originally constructed in 1879 by Canada's (or British North America's?) Great Western Railway/Road. It was Listed in 1995!

I agree with your comment on the tawdriness of much of the USA. Coming here soon...

Iceland may not have any railways now, but the former Reykjavik Harbour Railway must have the unique distinction of having its entire locomotive fleet preserved, although there were only ever two of them - see Wikipedia for details

PS - Brilliant puzzle FTN - I spent half an hour stuck on a delayed train this evening Googling Dutch railway stations fruitlessly!

Google came up with

But visiting the page:

There is no train network in Iceland.

Ah, yes I see now. Just Googled it to check it out. Not quite my low countries guess then.

First letter is indeed correct, although it Falls to me to make the announcement shortly. Although you may have to stay up late to see it.

^^Got the first letter correct, FT,N!

As for the country guesses...

The preponderance of blue and grey seems to indicate France, Belgium or Italy. I will hazard a guess (see wot I did there!) at Namur !

A final clue before the big reveal: my journey ended in a different country to where it began - but only just!

Okay, my closest guess is somewhere in the low countries, let's say starting from Belgium and just crossing into the Netherlands.

Scandinavian country ,not certain though.

Certainly not Scandinavian.  Not Norwegian, obviously, although the station name begins with N. And it isn't on the GWR network.

I too wondered if it was the new Kenilworth Station but I had a quick look at it in summer and the building in the photo looks too big. I also wondered if it was the new Cranbrook station in/near Exeter but again I don't recall seeing the design plans as looking that big.

The subject line says it all, really. Can anyone identify the station I arrived at last Saturday and departed from on Monday 8 October 2018?

Kenilworth ?

Looks rather neat and tidy, with neither litter nor yellow lines - may I suggest somewhere foreign?
