1897 The start of Britain’s first motorized (as opposed to horse-drawn) bus service, in Bradford.

The [motorised] bus [had] made a brief appearance in Bradford as early as 1897, when a short-lived service, operated by the Yorkshire Motor Car Company using a single vehicle, and which lasted for only a few days, ran from the Town Hall to Four Lane Ends.
Great things from small beginnings ... "first bus service" turns out not to be easy to tie down to a particular date, with early experiments being more bleeding edge than leading edge.
