Ensure your facts are right right RIGHT
This campaign tip (no. 55) was published on Sunday, 24th February 2019
It's all about trust. You want and need your reader to trust what you say ... and if you are campaigning, that reader is likely to be knowldgable and technically very well informed indeed. Even if you are writing for your troops, keep it accurate as they will quote you ... and ... you'll be read by those same knowledgable and informed people, and if you get it wrong (or embellish) that will become a note of caution against you.
The picture at the top of this post is of the disused station at Limpley Stoke. I'm pretty sure it's Limpley Stoke because you can just about read that, and because it looks right for Limpley Stoke. It was posted as a "Disused Station" and labelled Freshford ... which will be alarming news to the people of Freshford, who have an hourly train service still calling, with nearly 45,000 journeys made to and from there in the last year I have data for (year to March 2018). They even had their platform lengthened last year.
. I posted a picture of The Luas (the Dublin Tram) online on the Historic Melksham page ... in case you're wondering why, lots of heavy engineering in the form or bridges, made in Melksham, were to be seen in Dublin's dockland whenI visited just over 3 years ago, and some (I understand) are being kept / preserved as the whole area is modernised. Imagine my shock at someone following up to warn other readers that the pictures were "at least 10 years old" and even being pretty darned insistent. Now - there is a follower who's data I won't trust again.
Amusing, I admit to laughing at a picture of Westbury station as the "flag" for a web page about the engineering works at Westbury Station last Christmas. Problem was ... picture was Westbury, Long Island Railroad (a New York commuter line). Engineering works to take place at Westbury, Wiltshire, England. Now - there's a site that I can't trust implicitly - a seed of doubt is sewn.
There are times I'll post / include data that I've not been able to verify - and in such a circumstance "I believe to be" or "I think" are qualifiers that convey my doubt In an appropriate way. And - as the regular reader here will know - I'm prone to making spolling errors. They too (yes, I am aware) reduce the value of what I write somewhat and I do check myself somewhat.
