It's so good to read of the success of Okehampton, returned to the National Rail fold. If you could ask Santa to restore another regular national passenger service, where would you ask him for? You have up to three choices, bearing in mind that even Santa might get tied up in red tape with some of the options.
Please feel free to suggest other options ...

I'd have liked to have ticked far more than three, but there you go.
I chose preserved lines that already connect to the national network. Years ago, when I was new to this forum, I suggested the concept of a 'conservation railway' - a bit like a conservation area in town planning terms, but applied to a railway. New thinking and some sort of public/private/voluntary organisation would be needed to retain heritage aspects such as signalling, but with open minds and goodwill it should be possible.
Couldn't bring myself to vote for Buckfastleigh, but would have voted early and often for Ashburton! Pill was a bit of an odd option, without Portishead - or did you have a different Pill in mind? Thornbury would certainly be nice, but so would Padstein, Ilfracombe and a whole host of West Country resorts...

Yeah ... I remembered Ludgershall when I was almost complete in setting the poll, and by that time I was further up the alphabet and it was easier to suggest Tidworth. Could have added "Ratfin Junction" to my list for another Salisbury Plain option, but that would be a complete relay. And perhaps change at Ratfin for narrow gauge to Stonehenge. |

Re-establishing the line to Bude would probably have been top of my list, and might still be, but having recently had the opportunity of taking the Okehampton service, I was quite impressed (at least by British standards) of the onward bus connections at the station.

Restoration of a service from Worcester, via Evesham and Honeybourne, to Stratford upon Avon and Birmingham would be great. As would (sorry, GWSR people) a service restored along the length of the Stratford to Cheltenham line
