Our first "Option 24/7" meeting last Monday allowed us on that team to initially explore "Bus Back Better" - the biggest change in the bus industry since 1986, and a good 'un; huge thanks to Lee, also to Peter, Kevin, Richard and Natacha.   Slides at http://option247.uk/20210329.pdf .  Percollating down from England through Wiltshire to Melksham - activities needed at all levels.    I will be writing up notes, directing people to forms, etc, shortly - pencilling here the next meeting so that I have a dynamic hook to refer people to.

Agenda for meeting, 19th April 2020, 19:30 – ALL WELCOME (including members of the Coffee Shop with bus experience please!)

When we met last month, Lee and Graham introduced "Bus Back Better" and our understanding thereof.  This month we'll update you on work that's been going on over the last three weeks - some significant progress, but at the same time the purdah in the lead up to local elections has limited what we can do.

1. For NEWCOMERS, we'll start with a brief summary of what "Bus Back Better is all about

2. We'll take a look at progress and what's been happening over the last few weeks

3. Then we need to look ahead and plan; BBB is the best opportunity in 30 years - and funded too - to make changes that make a service suitable for our changed future as we move towards a zero carbon world.  And it can be done by using the carrot and not the stick.

We will look to establish a skeleton structure for co-ordinated working as positive partners to our Local Transport Authority and bus operators

And we will be looking for ambassadors across various Community Areas in Wiltshire to help oil the wheels of passenger inputs in their towns and the surrounding countryside

All welcome ... there's going to be different outcomes in different areas, but also so much we can share with (and learn from) friends in Somerset and elsewhere.

Bus Back Better - 19:30 this (19.4.2021) evening - Wiltshire's Option 24/7 team. The biggest change to how bus services are organsised for many years, and it looks like the changes should be positive for passengers, operators, transport authories and the environment!  There's even funding from HMG.  On Zoom via https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87014008115... - or dial in codes via http://www.passenger.chat/24850 . If you are new to BBB, don't worry - we start with an overview.  But this is on a short lead time, community input not only sought but mandated in "Bus Service Improvement Plan"s and our team has the background to hit the road running.

Public post - please share.   I am putting this on my PERSONAL timeline to help ensure it reaches Wiltshire people who I know but who are not currently bus users - often because there isn't (yet) the right bus.

Illustration - a bus at Melksham Station.  Sadly, not yet a regular service - this was Saturday's Rail Replacement service.  Eight people got off and 3 on - and that's not counting people who were travelling through Melksham.  Considering Coronavirus cutting public transport use, and the rail replacement element putting people off too, those are not bad numbers!
